It all started with a first edition of poetry, a birthday gift on a first date...two years later, the couple was married. Twelve years later, a baby came along. Shortly thereafter, the couple, Todd and Brenda Macon, started Points West Fine Books, LLC,  located in Durango, Colorado.

"Since that first romantic book,  we became avid book collectors," says Brenda. "Both of us have always loved books, and collecting has been a terrific adventure."

"We both graduated from the "Great Books Program" at St. John's College in Santa Fe, a program that instilled in us a deep appreciation for the relevance of books in the history of ideas," agrees Todd.

They are constantly seeking books of Western Americana, nature writing, fly fishing, and philosophy.

Brenda is also an artist who enjoys Matisse.  Her favorite authors include Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Anne Rice, Flaubert, Voltaire, and Steinbeck.

Todd is an avid angler, hiker, skier, and a high school English teacher.  His favorite authors include Cormac McCarthy, Craig Childs, Barry Lopez, James Joyce, and Walt Whitman.  The history and landscape of the West are constant sources of inspiration for him.

Their daughter, Mia, is three.  She is just learning to read. She enjoys Mercer Mayer, Maurice Sendak, and her fish, whom she has fondly named "Lizard-head".

Brenda and Todd are committed to their community in Durango, Colorado, and are supporters of the Arts.

They are also committed to a healthy planet, and practice recycling as much as possible within the business. More than 60% of the packaging for their books, including the gift wrap and raffia ribbon, is made of natural, post-consumer, or recycled material.
